Graduate celebrated at international alumni awards in Egypt

Oxford Brookes alumnus Sherif Hefni ’09 was named the winner of the British Council’s Study UK Alumni Awards 2017 in March.

Sherif, who completed a Graduate Law Diploma at the University, was selected from a global total of more than 1,200 applicants from across 14 countries.

He won the Professional Achievement category of the awards, which recognises those who have distinguished themselves through exemplary leadership in their professional industry and who can demonstrate the impact and scale of their achievements.

“At Oxford Brookes, we were given access to the best legal libraries, full access to legal databases and continual support from the law lecturers.”

In 2012 Sherif founded Levari LLP – an international law firm based in Cairo, Egypt. Three years later Levari was ranked as a tier 2 law firm in Legal 500 internationally and in the top ten law firms in Egypt.

Speaking about his time at the University Sherif said: “At Oxford Brookes, we were given access to the best legal libraries, full access to legal databases and continual support from the law lecturers.”

Another Oxford Brookes alumnus Massimiliano Rebaudengo ’16, who completed a master’s degree in Development and Emergency Practice, was also nominated in the award’s Social Impact category, for his work as the Head of Mission for Syria for the international aid network Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF).

An Oxford Brookes alumna has been appointed as a Goodwill Ambassador by the UN Refugee Agency.
