When you were a student did you have a career mentor? Someone who could offer you professional knowledge, widen your network and give you access to great opportunities?
If you did then you will know how valuable such a relationship can be. And if you didn’t, well, perhaps you wish you’d had the chance.
A number of subjects – including Hospitality Management, Real Estate, Sport and Accounting – already run successful mentoring schemes for their undergraduate students. But for students on other courses, options have been limited. Until now…
The Brookes Connections e-mentoring scheme has been launched to make mentoring available, in time, to all undergraduate students. It will match them with alumni who have relevant experience and expertise to provide one-to-one careers advice, support and guidance on their profession.
In today’s competitive job market, the need for students to graduate with highly developed work-based skills and experience is far greater than it once was. Mentoring is one way for students to gain such skills and experience alongside their studies.
Mentors will also benefit from the new ideas that students can bring to their work, from developing relationships with aspiring young professionals and from the personal satisfaction of helping Brookes students to bloom and become the stars of tomorrow.
Brookes Connections is currently recruiting both mentors and students for phase two. Mentoring will start in Semester 2 - from 29 January.
