Westminster College Reunion 2017

In September, 90 or so Westminster alumni, better known as Old W’s, met in their old haunts at the Harcourt Hill Campus. For the class of 1967 this was their Golden Anniversary year.

Gathering on Saturday afternoon, friendships were rekindled and memories shared. Dave Playford ’67, recounted tales of his tutors and sporting events whilst Bob Williams, Union Society President 1967, recalled the very special spirit of Westminster. Later, hearing about the career paths of old friends showed how diverse their journeys have been.

Dinner was followed by an evening singing the hits of the swinging sixties accompanied by The Tarriers, an Old W’s group. Liz, Maggie and Sandra offered a female perspective on 1960’s college life before cutting a reunion cake.

On Sunday morning a very positive Westminster Society AGM was followed by a reunion service in the chapel. Chaplain Robert Bates led worship, Glyn Edwards ’67 played piano and the Rev. Dr Ralph Waller ’67, Principal of Harris Manchester College, preached the sermon. Of the congregation’s singing, one Old W commented, “Sunday’s singing brought that sense of joy flooding back”. The group dispersed with many promises to do it all again next year.

Westminster College merged with Oxford Brookes in 2000.
